Amanda wood, LCSW

My philosophy is heavily influenced by the quote “It’s okay to not be okay” with the belief that asking for help shows strength. Through a humanistic, person-centered approach, my aspiration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is to support my clients by meeting them where they are and providing a supportive environment for self-reflection. This approach will allow my clients to optimize the positive attributes they possess while supporting the development of skills to enhance their lives.

I specialize in supporting children, teens, and their families as they navigate life’s challenges. Whether facing anxiety, depression, stress, or emotional and behavioral difficulties, I provide a safe and encouraging space to grow. I help clients strengthen their social skills, improve their problem-solving abilities, regulate their emotions, and explore coping strategies. I also offer guidance for those managing educational struggles, food allergies, or coping with grief and loss, fostering resilience and confidence along the way. I utilize multiple techniques with my clients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT,) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), while incorporating trauma-focused practices.

My journey in the social work field began in 2015 when I graduated with my Bachelors in Social Work and worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County. During my adventure, I was able to support both the site and community-based programs. In 2019, I went back to school to earn my Masters in Social Work from Aurora University with a specialization in school social work. While I continue to support students and their families within the school, I am excited to have the opportunity to expand my support within the community.

I take full advantage of my free time and consistently have a packed schedule of fun adventures like camping and going to concerts with family and friends. I also love to try new restaurants and rate their mozzarella sticks! Some of my self-care strategies include cuddling with my pets, listening to music, journaling, crafting, and more!!
